Sony Unveils Feature-Packed PS5 Update Including DualSense Enhancements and Screen Share Additions

Sony is introducing a new PS5 update packed with enhancements, including improvements to the speakers and microphone on DualSense controllers, additions to the Screen Share feature, and the ability to adjust the brightness of the PS5 power indicator. Originally tested by select users last month, this update is now being rolled out globally to all PS5 owners.

As part of this update, Sony is enhancing the firmware on both the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers. This includes boosting the output volume of in-game sounds and voice chat, alongside enhancing the microphones to effectively cancel out background noise, such as button presses, thanks to a newly implemented machine learning model.

Additionally, the Screen Share function on the PS5 is receiving new features, including pointers and emoji reactions. These additions allow friends to draw instructional lines on a shared screen to emphasize specific areas or objects. Viewers can also send emoji reactions to the host during screen sharing sessions, making it ideal for celebrating achievements like boss completions. Users will have the option to disable these pointers and emoji reactions if they become too distracting. Furthermore, a forthcoming update to the PlayStation mobile app, scheduled for later this month, will enable iOS and Android users to utilize these new Share Screen interactions.

Another notable addition is the ability for PS5 owners to adjust the brightness of the console's power indicator. With three options available—dim, medium, and bright (default)—users have the flexibility to customize their gaming experience according to their preferences. However, it's important to note that full disabling of the power indicator is not possible with this update.
