OpenAI's ChatGPT Soars to 100 Million Weekly Users with GPT-4 Turbo and New APIs

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has revealed that the AI chatbot ChatGPT has reached a remarkable milestone of 100 million weekly active users. This announcement coincides with the release of the new GPT-4 Turbo model, which offers enhanced capabilities, cost-effectiveness, and supports a substantial 128K context window.

At OpenAI's inaugural developer conference, Altman shared that ChatGPT had achieved an estimated 100 million monthly users within just two months of its launch. Notably, over two million developers have embraced the platform, with more than 92% of Fortune 500 companies utilizing its services.

The GPT-4 Turbo model introduces a substantial 128K context window, enabling it to accommodate the equivalent of over 300 pages of text in a single prompt. OpenAI has also fine-tuned its performance, resulting in a remarkable cost reduction—GPT-4 Turbo offers input tokens at one-third of the previous cost and output tokens at half the previous cost compared to its predecessor, GPT-4.

In addition to GPT-4 Turbo, OpenAI is launching a new version of GPT-3.5 Turbo, which inherently supports a 16K context window.

OpenAI is further extending its offerings with the introduction of the Assistants API, designed to empower developers to create agent-like experiences within their applications. An assistant, in this context, is an AI tailored for specific tasks, armed with specialized instructions, knowledge resources, and the ability to invoke models and tools to execute tasks. The Assistants API introduces capabilities such as Code Interpreter, Retrieval, and function calling.

To enhance the audio capabilities, OpenAI has introduced a text-to-speech API, providing access to six preset voices and two generative AI model variants. This advancement allows developers to generate high-quality human-like speech from text, with pricing starting at $0.015 per 1,000 characters of input.

Moreover, developers can seamlessly integrate DALL·E 3, a recent addition to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise offerings, directly into their applications and products. This move reflects OpenAI's commitment to continuously enhancing its suite of tools and services to meet the evolving needs of its diverse user base.
