Amazon Introduces Passkey Support for Passwordless Sign-In: Enhanced Convenience and Security

Amazon is introducing passkey support for its browsers and mobile shopping apps, offering customers a passwordless sign-in option for added convenience and security. With passkeys, customers can use the same face, fingerprint, or PIN they use to unlock their devices to access their Amazon accounts.

Customers can set up passkeys in their Amazon settings, eliminating the need for traditional passwords. Passkey support is gradually rolling out on the iOS Amazon Shopping app, with support for the Android Amazon Shopping app coming soon. Passkeys cannot be written down or guessed, making them more secure and preventing accidental sharing with hackers.

Passkeys offer a more convenient and secure way to access apps and sites, using fingerprint, face scan, or lock screen PIN for authentication. They are less susceptible to phishing attacks compared to traditional passwords and one-time codes in text messages. This move by Amazon aligns with the industry trend towards more secure and user-friendly authentication methods, reducing the reliance on traditional passwords and enhancing security for customers.
