ChatGPT’s mobile app has become a runaway hit. Since launching in May 2023, it’s pulled in around $2 billion in consumer spending across iOS and Android—roughly 30 times what rivals like Claude, Copilot, and Grok have managed combined.

The app’s growth has only accelerated in 2025. From January through July, it brought in $1.35 billion, a 673% jump year over year. That’s about $193 million a month, compared to just $25 million a month in 2024.

So far, ChatGPT has been installed about 690 million times worldwide. On average, each install translates to $2.91 in revenue, outpacing Claude ($2.55), Grok ($0.75), and Copilot ($0.28). In the US, the numbers are even stronger: each download brings in about $10, with the country making up 38% of lifetime revenue. Germany follows with about 5%. India, meanwhile, leads in sheer volume of installs, accounting for 13.7% of the total, compared to the US’s 10.3%.

Downloads have surged this year, too—318 million in 2025 so far, nearly three times more than the same period last year. Monthly installs now average 45 million, up 180% year over year.

Competitors barely register by comparison. Grok, the closest challenger, has made just $25.6 million this year, or less than 2% of ChatGPT’s haul.

With nearly $2 billion in revenue, 700 million installs, and explosive 2025 growth, ChatGPT’s app is setting the pace for consumer AI—and leaving the competition far behind.
