Türk Telekom and ZTE have collaboratively launched Europe's first millimeter-wave supported 5G-A

Türk Telekom and ZTE have collaboratively launched Europe's first millimeter-wave supported 5G-A Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) solution for maritime management. This initiative was unveiled during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025 and implemented at Kumport, Türkiye, marking a significant advancement in intelligent waterway management.

Key Features of the 5G-A ISAC Maritime Solution

  • Enhanced Monitoring: The solution employs ZTE's millimeter-wave Active Antenna Unit (AAU) technology, integrating communication and sensing capabilities to provide real-time vessel tracking, electronic fence alerts, and collision avoidance near bridges, thereby improving maritime safety and management efficiency.
  • All-Weather Operation: Utilizing millimeter-wave sensing technology, the system ensures high-precision monitoring even in low-visibility conditions, such as fog, overcoming limitations of traditional video surveillance methods.
  • Real-Time Alerts: The technology enables the establishment of electronic fences that automatically detect and alert management to unauthorized vessel entries, contributing to smarter and more efficient maritime operations.

Implications for Maritime Management

The successful deployment at Kumport demonstrates the potential of 5G-A ISAC technology to revolutionize maritime management by offering robust solutions for safety, environmental monitoring, and traffic control. This innovation is expected to be adopted in various maritime scenarios globally, enhancing operational efficiency and safety standards.
