Google is actively developing a lineup of forthcoming smartphones, encompassing the Pixel 8a, the flagship Pixel 9 series, and the much-anticipated Pixel Fold 2.
While glimpses of the Pixel 8a's design have surfaced through leaked retail packaging, renders depicting the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have also emerged, showcasing a distinctive design ethos for the company's upcoming smartphone range. Adding to the intrigue, a new element has entered the fray.
An unidentified Google smartphone, bearing the model number GH2MB, has been sighted on the UL Demko certification website. The certification reveals that the device will boast a 4,942mAh rated battery, potentially marketed as around 5,000mAh.
The substantial battery capacity of this enigmatic device suggests that it might not be the traditionally budget-centric Pixel 8a. Its size aligns more closely with the battery expectations for the flagship Pixel 9 series, particularly the Pro variants. Alternatively, this certification could pertain to the Pixel Fold 2, as a larger battery would be well-suited for the demanding form factor of a foldable phone.
However, the listing does not definitively specify the exact nature of the device. Further certifications are anticipated to provide more insight into the GH2MB's true identity and specifications in the near future.
In other Pixel-related developments, a new Tensor chipset, likely designated as the Tensor G4, has been detected on a Geekbench listing. This chipset is expected to power the upcoming Google Pixel 9 series and Pixel Fold 2.
Nevertheless, the Geekbench listing indicates that the System-on-Chip (SoC) features an octa-core processor, in contrast to the nine cores found in the Tensor G3. Moreover, its performance appears slightly inferior to its predecessor. While this discrepancy might be attributed to it being an engineering model, the decision by the company to reduce the number of cores remains somewhat perplexing.
