Vivo Introduces Origin OS 4 at 2023 Developer Conference, Focusing on Performance and Design Enhancements

The 2023 Vivo Developer Conference kicked off with the unveiling of Origin OS 4, based on Android 14. This new iteration of the operating system brings a host of exciting features, a redesigned user interface, and notable performance improvements. However, it's important to note that there are currently no plans to make it available on phones outside China.

While international units are set to receive Funtouch 14, Origin OS 4 is specifically designed for the Chinese market.

Performance enhancements are a key focus of Origin OS 4. It introduces a "virtual graphics card" that accelerates app response times. This enhancement reduces the time it takes to open and close apps by 36% and increases frame rate stability by 70%. It achieves this by prioritizing on-screen tasks, allocating additional resources from the CPU and GPU, and blocking unnecessary calculations.

The update also brings a significant visual overhaul, including the redesign of over 2,000 icons to enhance visual comfort. Vivo has introduced its custom vivo Sans font throughout the system, and there are new UI interactions with real-time blurring effects, contextual wallpapers, and lock screen customization options.

Additionally, Origin OS 4 includes vivo smart car 4.0, which serves as an alternative to Android Auto in the Chinese market. It provides an interface for connecting smartphones to supported cars.

While Origin OS 4 introduces several China-specific features like the Blue Heart Jr V assistant powered by AI and Family Health, which tracks smart devices of other family members, these features are unlikely to make their way to global versions of the operating system.

The rollout of Origin OS 4 to existing devices is expected to commence by the end of the year. The first devices to receive the update will be the China-based variants of X Fold2, X Flip, X90, X90 Pro, and X90 Pro+, along with the iQOO 11, iQOO 11S, and iQOO 11 Pro. The upcoming vivo X100 and iQOO 12 series will come with Origin OS 4 pre-installed.
