OpenAI Announces Platform for Creating Custom GPTs, Introduces GPT Store

OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, is set to introduce a platform for creating custom versions of ChatGPT tailored for specific use cases, without requiring coding skills. These AI agents, termed GPTs, will be accessible through the GPT Store, allowing users to access and deploy them for specific applications. Creators will be compensated based on the usage of their GPTs. Initially, GPTs will be available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers. The company aims to encourage customization of ChatGPT to better fit specific user needs, providing more control over interactions.

The GPT platform offers the capability to create GPTs through a user-friendly interface, allowing users to guide how the GPT interacts with people before publishing. The platform supports various features, such as web browsing, integration with DALL-E for image generation, and access to OpenAI's Code Interpreter tool for software development. Additionally, there is a Knowledge section for uploading custom data, enabling GPTs to leverage specific information. The platform also introduces Actions, allowing GPTs to connect with external services such as Canva and Zapier for data retrieval.

OpenAI emphasizes the utility-focused nature of its platform, positioning it as a tool for specific tasks rather than bots that emulate human personas. The introduction of custom GPTs puts OpenAI in competition with other AI bot platforms, and the company envisions this development as a step closer to its ultimate goal of creating Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). OpenAI plans to monitor the activity to prevent issues like fraud, hate speech, and adult content. The GPT Store will initially accept agents from users who have verified their identity and will provide access through shareable web links.
