OnePlus Begins Hype for Its Foldable Smartphone "Open" with Unique Hinge Design

OnePlus is gearing up for the launch of its first-ever foldable smartphone, the "Open." The company's CEO, Pete Lau, has shared insights into the device's unique hinge design, boasting about its 35 patents. Notably, the OnePlus Open features a seamless fold without any hinge gap, demonstrated by an interesting paper-trap test.

This foldable phone's hinge has significantly fewer components compared to its sibling, the Oppo Find N2, resulting in a 37% reduction in size and weight. Despite entering the foldable market later, OnePlus promises a fast and smooth user experience consistent with its other devices, even retaining the beloved alert slider.

Lau highlights the collaborative effort between OnePlus and Oppo in developing the device, hinting at potential international branding as the OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3 in China. However, Lau firmly states that a OnePlus flip phone is not on the horizon, as it doesn't align with their target user base.
