Meta introduces DM restrictions for unwanted messages within Instagram

Instagram has officially launched a new feature designed to enhance user safety within its direct messaging (DM) system. This move comes after the platform recently conducted testing of the feature. The new addition introduces two significant restrictions for users attempting to send DM requests to individuals who do not follow them.

First, these users can only send one message initially, rather than an unlimited number of DM requests. Subsequent messages can only be sent once the recipient accepts the chat request. Second, DM invitations are now limited to text-only content until the recipient accepts the request, preventing the transmission of unwanted images or videos.

Instagram's objective with this feature is to protect users, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding women from unsolicited and inappropriate content in their DMs, including unwanted images and videos.
