Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Might Be Qualcomm’s Mysterious SM8845 Chip

A new leak suggests Qualcomm’s upcoming SM8845 chip will launch as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, sitting just below the top-tier 8 Elite Gen 2. The info comes from multiple reliable sources, including Digital Chat Station, and hints at a high-performance processor built for premium devices—without the full “Elite” price tag.

The chip is said to feature all-big Oryon CPU cores and is being fabbed using TSMC’s 3nm N3P process. That should deliver big gains in both performance and efficiency. Performance is rumored to be close to the Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750), and the GPU could even be the same one—or a close sibling.

This would position the 8 Gen 5 as a strong “almost-flagship” option, likely aimed at top-tier phones that don’t need bleeding-edge power but still want serious speed. The naming also suggests Qualcomm is doubling down on its “Gen” series, while keeping “Elite” for its highest-end chips.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, along with the Elite Gen 2, is expected to launch at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, which kicks off September 23, 2025.
