Samsung has announced the details of its August 2024 security update, set to be released soon

Samsung has announced the details of its August 2024 security update, set to be released soon for eligible smartphones and tablets. High-end devices are expected to receive the update first. This update addresses 50 security vulnerabilities found in previous software versions, with 35 fixes provided by Google. Among these, one is marked as critical, and 34 as moderately severe. Additionally, Samsung Semiconductor has contributed one patch.

Samsung has added 14 security fixes specific to Galaxy devices, detailing 12 on its security bulletin webpage. These fixes address issues related to improper access control in various system services, including ExtControlDeviceService, Galaxy Watch, Knox, and system properties. The update also resolves out-of-bound issues in functions such as libcodec2secmp4vdec.so and libsmat.so. Problems with insufficient permission handling were found in KnoxDualDARPolicy, SumeNNService, and Telephony, and improper input validation issues were identified in the librtp.so function.

These vulnerabilities could allow attackers to access device information without permission or cause device crashes. Samsung may begin rolling out the August 2024 security patch to Galaxy smartphones and tablets this week.

The upcoming update may also bring One UI 6.1.1 to high-end devices, introducing several new features and some Galaxy AI capabilities that debuted with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 last month.
