Google is reportedly contemplating a rebranding of its AI assistant, Bard, to Gemini, aligning it with the name of the underlying foundation model. This information surfaced in a changelog published on February 7, where an update noted that "Bard is now Gemini." Additionally, the Bard Advanced, scheduled for release on February 7, is expected to be known as "Gemini Advanced," providing users with access to Gemini Ultra. Gemini Ultra, previously announced, is optimized for handling highly complex tasks such as advanced reasoning, coding, and solving mathematical problems.
The potential renaming of Bard to Gemini might be accompanied by the introduction of an Android app for Google's AI chatbot. The app is anticipated to share similarities with the Google Assistant app, but initial availability may be restricted to the United States, targeting select devices like Pixel devices and the Galaxy S24 series. Plans are in place for the app to expand to more regions and support additional languages after the initial rollout.
In a recent update, Google added new capabilities to Bard, including image generation powered by the Imagen 2 model. Furthermore, the availability of the AI chat assistant, driven by the Gemini Pro model, was extended to more regions, now supporting over 40 languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and others.
