Xiaomi is making significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, with the recent announcement of its HyperOS technology designed to enhance the driving experience in Xiaomi cars, particularly the SU7 electric sedans. HyperOS focuses on creating a human-centric interaction between users, cars, and home devices, striving to build a comprehensive ecosystem.
The five key features of HyperOS, as outlined by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, include Comprehensive Refactoring, Interconnectivity, Proactive Intelligence, End-to-End Security, and Open Platform. These elements contribute to creating a smart cabin experience reminiscent of luxury cars. Xiaomi has developed its technology stack in-house to achieve this connected experience, featuring the Xiaomi Pilot for an autonomous driving experience with precise and intelligent perception.
The hardware components of Xiaomi's SU7 EV include LIDAR, high-definition cameras, mmWave radar, ultrasonic radar, gyroscope, GNSS, and high-performance computing chips. The AI capabilities encompass end-to-end sensing and decision-making, predicting driving behavior, real-time AI road modeling, environmental modeling, and more. The system supports various functions such as smart parking, smart driving, intelligent safety, and smart interaction.
The HyperOS powers the smart cabin in Xiaomi EVs, incorporating a sizable 16.1-inch 3K screen on the front and a large 56-inch Head-Up Display (HUD). The system remains in sync with the external and cabin environment, offering dynamic displays based on factors like weather conditions and time of day. The user interface allows for customization, with apps displayed as widgets that can be moved and resized, similar to phone interfaces.
Notably, HyperOS ensures a fast and smooth performance, with the operating system starting in just 1.49 seconds. The system supports individual drive modes, Apple CarPlay, AirPlay, and facilitates Over-the-Air (OTA) updates that can be installed in just 30 minutes. Xiaomi's foray into the EV sector, coupled with innovative technologies like HyperOS, positions the company as a notable player in the growing electric vehicle market.
