HONOR Launches MagicOS 8.0 Based on Android 14 with Intent-Based UI and MagicLM Integration

HONOR has jumped on the Android 14 bandwagon by launching MagicOS 8.0 based on the latest version of the operating system. In China, the company is promoting an "intent-based UI" and platform-level AI integration with the new MagicOS. The highlight of MagicOS 8.0 is MagicLM, HONOR's proprietary on-device large language model with seven billion parameters, optimized in collaboration with Qualcomm to run seamlessly on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The intent-based UI of MagicOS 8.0 is designed to render services based on user intentions rather than responding to specific requests. It achieves this by interpreting language, images, gestures, and eye movements to proactively offer services. The new Magic Portal feature, at the core of this intent-based UI, provides shortcut recommendations based on user intentions, allowing users to swipe to switch and access services between apps and devices. For instance, users can drag and drop booking and reservation messages onto navigation apps to automatically get directions across locations. Magic Portal supports over 100 popular apps in its debut in China.

MagicLM enables on-device AI tasks, such as generating videos with natural language prompts, accessing personal assistant features, and more. Users can employ AI to locate a specific frame in a video based on their query. Additionally, MagicOS 8.0 introduces system-wide Parallel Spaces, suggesting the ability to run two instances of any app. The update also includes a new shake-to-block ads feature, eliminating intrusive pop-up ads.

As of now, HONOR has not provided details regarding the global rollout timeline for MagicOS 8.0 or the complete changelog. Further information will be provided once available.
