Windows 11 Notepad Update Introduces Character Count Feature

In a recent update to Windows 11's Notepad app, Microsoft has introduced a character count feature, marking another improvement to the built-in application. This addition, present in the Canary channel test version, displays the character count at the bottom, similar to Microsoft Word's word count feature. When text is selected, the status bar provides the character count for both the selected text and the entire document. If no text is selected, the character count for the entire document is shown, providing users with a clear view of the document's length.

This enhancement is part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to refine Notepad, following recent additions like an autosave option, tabs, dark mode, and even a virtual fidget spinner. The character count feature addresses a longstanding need for users who frequently work with text documents in Notepad, offering a more comprehensive set of tools for document management.

In addition to the Notepad changes, the latest Windows 11 test build brings improvements to the widgets section. Users will soon have the option to show widgets while hiding the feed of news and articles within the widgets screen. This enhancement provides users with greater flexibility and customization, allowing them to tailor the widgets feature to their preferences.

As these features are currently in the testing phase in the Canary channel, Microsoft may make further adjustments based on user feedback. However, users can anticipate these changes to become available for all Windows 11 users in early 2024.
