Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Series Receives New Security Update, Focusing on Stability Improvements

Samsung has rolled out a new security update for its Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, likely including the December 2023 security patch. The update, identified by the firmware version R870XXU1HWL1, focuses on improving the stability of the smartwatches. While no new features or significant performance enhancements are expected, the update is part of Samsung's commitment to addressing security vulnerabilities and ensuring the reliability of its wearables.

The Galaxy Watch 4 series received the Wear OS 4-based One UI 5 Watch update a few months ago, marking a significant software upgrade. This latest security update is the first post-One UI 5 Watch update for the smartwatches. Although details about the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic update are not yet available, it is likely to receive a similar software update.

The December 2023 security patch addresses approximately 75 security vulnerabilities present in the previous software version. Users can check for the update on their Galaxy Watch 4 devices by accessing the Galaxy Wearable app, selecting the relevant watch from the left-side menu, and navigating to Watch settings » Watch software update. Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 4 series two years ago with Wear OS 3-based One UI Watch 4 pre-installed, and the devices continue to receive regular updates to enhance performance, stability, and security.
