Google Boosts Chrome Browser Security with Safety Check, Password Monitoring, and Enhanced Browsing Features

Google is enhancing the security features of its Chrome browser with automatic background checks through the Safety Check feature. This update will include checking if passwords saved in Chrome have been compromised, alerting users about dangerous extensions, ensuring they are using the latest Chrome version, and verifying if Safe Browsing is enabled. Safety Check will also automatically revoke permissions, such as location or microphone access, for sites that haven't been visited for an extended period. The update aims to improve user security by identifying potential risks and providing alerts for necessary actions.

In addition to security updates, Google is introducing a new feature that allows Chrome desktop users to save tab groups and resume browsing on other desktop devices. This enhancement aims to improve the browsing experience for users who work across multiple devices. The company is also upgrading Chrome's performance controls, providing more information about tab memory usage in Memory Saver mode and making it easier for users to specify sites that should always remain active.

Furthermore, Google is contributing to internet security by automatically upgrading all insecure HTTP requests to HTTPS requests. This feature, which began rolling out in July, is now available to all users in the Stable channel as of October 2023. Additionally, the Safe Browsing feature now offers real-time phishing protection for all users, utilizing a locally stored list of known malicious URLs to enhance security.
