The Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, is receiving an update to Android 14 in India and several other regions. These flagship smartphones for 2023 are the first Samsung models to be updated to the latest Android version and come with an overhauled One UI 6 interface, featuring improvements to the quick panel, multitasking, and a new default font.
Users should receive a notification to download the update, or they can manually check for it in the settings app.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy S23 and have opted to receive updates via the beta channel, the software update is available for download with the build number S918BXXU3BWJM. Beta testers will have a 350MB update, while users updating from Android 13-based One UI 5.1 will need to download a larger 3GB update.
This update to Android 14 is currently available to users in India, several European countries, and the UK. However, users in the United States may need to wait a bit longer, as there are no reports of the update being available in the country. Samsung's support page indicates that the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S23 series will be available in the US "soon," along with a list of other smartphones confirmed to receive the update.
As part of the One UI 6 update based on Android 14, Samsung has introduced a redesigned quick settings panel and a modern media player in the notification area. You'll notice larger Wi-Fi and Bluetooth buttons at the top of the screen, and you can access the quick settings by swiping down from the top right corner or the notification area by swiping from the top left side.
The update also includes a new default font, replacing the one that Samsung has used since the introduction of One UI in 2018. Users can switch back to the older font, affecting the appearance of all apps. Additionally, all of Samsung's emojis from One UI 5.1 have been redesigned and appear slightly brighter.
Under the hood, the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S23 series brings improvements to the Gallery app with new AI features, redesigned camera buttons, and support for preset widgets with configurations that can be placed on the home screen. Samsung has optimized the home screen and app drawer and allows users to customize the position of the clock on the lock screen.
