Samsung has officially confirmed the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in its upcoming Galaxy S24 family, referred to as Samsung Gauss. The AI, described as "universal intelligence on your phone," aims to offer barrier-free communication, simplified productivity, and unleashed creativity. One confirmed feature is AI Live Translate Call, providing real-time audio and text translations during phone calls. Samsung Gauss Language, a generative language model, is expected to enhance work efficiency by assisting in tasks such as composing emails, summarizing documents, and translating content.
Additionally, Samsung Gauss Image is mentioned as a generative image model capable of easily generating and editing creative images, making style changes, and converting low-resolution images to high resolution. The blog post also teases video features for 200MP cameras powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's AI capabilities, including AI tracking for subject focus and end-to-end AI Remosaic image capture for richer details and colors.
Despite the promising features, there are concerns about the implementation's quality, considering Samsung's previous virtual assistant, Bixby. Another potential caveat is the rumor that Samsung may place some AI features behind a subscription paywall. The Galaxy S24 family is expected to launch in early 2024, with rumors pointing to a launch event on January 17 and the phone going on sale on February 2.
