Google Expands Bard Generative AI Chatbot to Teens with Safety Measures in Place

Google has expanded the availability of its Bard Generative AI-based chatbot to teens (ages 13-19) in most countries where the chatbot is accessible. Initially, Bard was designed for adults but is now adapted for a teenage audience. The chatbot is currently available in English, and support for more languages is expected in the future.

To ensure the safety of teens using Bard, Google has implemented safety measures. There is a specific onboarding process for teens that includes Google's AI Literacy Guide, a video teaching responsible AI chatbot use, the use of Bard Activity, and how to enable or disable Bard. Safety features have been incorporated to prevent the display of unsafe content, such as illegal or age-inappropriate material.

Google Bard is designed to be a helpful tool for teens to solve problems, explore hobbies, and find inspiration. For instance, it can assist in explaining complex topics, provide step-by-step solutions to mathematical equations, and generate charts from tables or other data. Google collaborated with child development and safety experts before making Bard available to teens.
