Google Maps has introduced offline mode for select Wear OS-powered smartwatches in version 11.140.0701.W of Google Maps

Google Maps has introduced offline mode for select Wear OS-powered smartwatches, allowing users to access navigation services without an active internet connection. This feature is currently rolling out in the public beta version of Google Maps. After updating the app, users might notice a banner indicating that offline maps from their phone are automatically downloaded to their watch. A new "Offline maps" page appears in the main menu above the "Settings" section, allowing users to manage their offline maps directly on the smartwatch.

The watch app automatically syncs with the maps saved on the user's phone, including those for the local area. It displays how much storage space the offline maps occupy and provides an easy option to delete them if necessary, mimicking the experience on Android devices. Google ensures that maps are synced when the watch is connected to Wi-Fi and charging, optimizing the update process.

In offline mode, a slashed cloud icon appears next to the time in the map view, indicating the watch is operating without an internet connection. This update includes a "Search & go" tile that offers quick access to Home and Work shortcuts, as well as a microphone for voice input. Users can quickly jump into the map view with a single tap, bypassing the main feed. The smartwatch also allows users to manage downloaded maps by tapping the "Offline maps" button and selecting "Manage on Phone."
