Uber Eats introduces live location sharing for smoother deliveries in complex environments, boosting reliability and customer satisfaction

Uber Eats is revolutionizing the food delivery experience with the introduction of live location sharing, aimed at assisting couriers in locating customers in challenging environments such as public spaces and outdoor venues.

This innovative feature, launching today across all markets except Quebec, provides a seamless solution for users ordering from locations that may be difficult to pinpoint, such as campus courtyards, parks, or playgrounds. When customers opt for a "meet outside" or "meet at door" order, Uber Eats automatically shares their live location with the courier as they approach within three minutes and within 100 meters of the drop-off site. Once the order is successfully delivered, the location sharing feature is deactivated, offering users privacy and control over their information with the ability to manually disable it at any time.

The implementation of live location sharing addresses a common challenge faced by couriers, particularly during warmer months when outdoor gatherings and events are more prevalent. By leveraging this technology, Uber Eats aims to enhance delivery reliability and ensure a seamless experience for both customers and couriers. This initiative follows in the footsteps of Domino's Pinpoint Delivery, introduced in June 2023, which allows customers to pinpoint their location on a map for precise pizza delivery.

Divya Dalapathi, Director of Product Management at Uber, expressed enthusiasm for the launch of live location sharing on Uber Eats, emphasizing its potential to improve delivery reliability, particularly in complex environments like office buildings and large apartment complexes. Drawing from the success of similar features implemented in the Uber rider app since 2017, Uber is confident that live location sharing will be a game-changer for the food delivery industry, offering greater convenience and peace of mind to users navigating challenging delivery scenarios.
