Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a significant network enhancement for its customers in South Karnataka, aimed at providing faster download speeds. The telecom company revealed that it has upgraded the spectrum bandwidth in the LTE 2100 MHz band from 5 MHz to 10 MHz across over 1000 sites, effectively doubling the network capacity.
Vi emphasized that this upgrade in the mid-band spectrum will result in an improved network experience for its customers in South Karnataka, offering higher download and upload speeds. The enhancement is particularly targeted at users in both commercial and residential areas of Bengaluru and its surrounding regions, including Mysuru, Mandya, Kolar, and Tumkur. Vi assured that even in crowded or congested pockets of these cities, customers will experience superior network performance.
Anand Dani, the Cluster Business Head for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana at Vodafone Idea, commented on the network upgrade, stating that Vi's commitment is to provide world-class digital experiences to connect and inspire every Indian. The company aims to continually upgrade its services to meet the evolving needs of customers and offer a seamless network experience.
Vi highlighted that the network enhancement aligns with its vision to empower customers with a superior experience and a robust network for smooth connectivity. The upgraded network is expected to facilitate various activities, including work, study, socializing, accessing entertainment, e-commerce, and other digital services on the Vi network.
As of October 2023, Vodafone Idea has around 6.6 million wireless subscribers in the Karnataka circle, with a peak VLR (Visitor Location Register) percentage of 85.04%. Despite losing around 2.04 million wireless subscribers during the same period, Vi continues to focus on enhancing its network capabilities to meet the growing demands of its user base.
