Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Expands Rollout of December 2023 Security Update

The latest security update for the Galaxy S23 lineup is now receiving a broader rollout after its initial limited release in the US earlier this month. This update marks the second security update for the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra since their transition to Android 14/One UI 6.

The December update for the Galaxy S23 series is identified by the firmware version ending in BWKC, though the version may vary depending on the region and when the update reaches specific countries. As of now, the rollout is expanding to numerous markets, with additional countries expected to receive the update in the coming days.

It's important to note that the December update primarily focuses on providing a more recent security patch, and there are no substantial changes or feature additions beyond the security enhancements. Users looking for fixes to specific issues or additional features may need to await future updates.

The December security patch itself addresses a total of 75 known vulnerabilities, with 54 affecting the core Android OS, 16 pertaining to Samsung One UI, and the remaining issues addressing vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices equipped with certain Exynos processors. Notably, the Galaxy S23 series, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip globally, is not affected by the Exynos-related vulnerabilities.

To download the update on the Galaxy S23, S23+, or S23 Ultra, users can navigate to Settings » Software update. Alternatively, users can manually install the latest firmware by downloading it from the SamMobile archive and using a Windows PC for installation.
