Google has expanded its Search Generative Experience (SGE) feature, bringing generative AI to over 120 new countries and territories. Previously available only in the United States, India, and Japan, the SGE update now includes regions such as Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and more. Additionally, support for four new languages—Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian—aims to enhance access for non-English speakers.
As part of the expansion, Google introduces interactive upgrades to make SGE more conversational. Users can now pose follow-up questions directly from search results, enabling deeper exploration of topics. Another feature addresses ambiguous words in translations, allowing users to select the intended meaning, starting with English-Spanish translations in the U.S.
The updates also include highlighted definitions for specialized terms in fields like medicine and coding, offering visual aids and explanations upon hovering.
While Google's investment in generative AI is evident, challenges related to accuracy, biases, and transparency in AI systems persist. As the technology evolves, addressing these concerns will be crucial for gaining user trust. Nevertheless, the expansion of generative AI in Google Search marks a milestone toward more human-like two-way interactions in search experiences.
